Allyship & Advocacy Training

What effective allyship looks like, and how colleagues can support each other in practice.

About this Allyship & Advocacy course

Allyship is about what you do, not what you call yourself. This session explores how people can use their voice and influence to support colleagues from different backgrounds, without speaking over them.

What the session covers

  1. 01What allyship is and isn't
  2. 02Performative versus meaningful allyship
  3. 03Using your influence to open doors
  4. 04Amplifying and sponsoring colleagues
  5. 05Handling mistakes and feedback well

What participants will learn

  • Understand what meaningful allyship involves
  • Recognise performative allyship and how to avoid it
  • Use your influence to open doors and amplify others
  • Plan specific, sustainable actions for your role

Why Allyship & Advocacy training matters in Wales

Welsh equality action plans on race and LGBTQ+ inclusion both make clear that everyone has a role in creating change, not only people from under-represented groups. Effective allies help staff networks thrive and make inclusion a shared responsibility across Welsh workplaces.

  • Supports staff networks and equality action plans
  • Makes inclusion everyone's responsibility
  • Turns good intentions into consistent action

Who it's for

All staff, staff network members and managers. It's suitable for local authorities, NHS Wales organisations, schools, colleges, universities, housing associations, charities and private-sector employers.

How it's delivered

Sessions are interactive and discussion-based, using realistic workplace scenarios rather than lectures. We create a respectful space where people can ask questions honestly. For in-house groups, we adapt examples, length and emphasis to reflect your sector, policies and priorities.
